Amanda Martin visited Wymering Manor to meet a passionate team of trustees and volunteers from the local community, who are saving the heritage of this Elizabethan landmark.

Wymering Manor Trust was set up in 2013, by volunteers from the local community to save this incredible Grade II* listed building. For the past 13 years, it has been a labour of love from dedicated volunteers to revitalise the house and to bring its stories to life.
Plans are underway to develop the manor as a resource for the community. The trust and volunteers are hoping to establish a repair and care café to support local community needs whilst also stabilising the building for increased use.
The volunteers are holding tea and coffee events to connect with local residents in order to establish community-led projects and link with neighbouring organisations. Wymering Manor’s vision is to build networks with local, regional and national communities, to repair and care for the house.
During the visit, Amanda, along with Historic England representatives, who are keen to support the work on this building which is on the Heritage at Risk register, met with some of the volunteers and trustees who are looking to develop the site for the community.
Amanda Martin MP says: It was a real privilege to visit Wymering Manor and meet the dedicated trustees and volunteers who are working tirelessly to protect and restore this remarkable building. Their passion for preserving the Manor’s history, while also creating a vibrant space for the local community, is truly inspiring.
Wymering Manor is an important part of Portsmouth’s heritage, and it is encouraging to see strong partnership working with Historic England to secure its future. Projects such as the proposed repair and care café show how heritage can sit at the heart of community life, bringing people together, supporting local needs and ensuring that this much-loved building can be enjoyed by future generations. I look forward to seeing how the Manor’s plans develop and the team have my full support in securing the manors future for generations to come.
Belinda Mitchell, Chair of Trustees says: It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Amanda Martin MP to Wymering Manor and to understand how Wymering may fit with the Pride of Portsmouth Funds. Local communities are really important to the future of the Manor as is the restoration of the building fabric. Having Heritage England at the house opened a discussion about the value of everyday heritage to the volunteers who are now the caretakers of the Manor.
Wymering Manor has a number of upcoming events where the manor will be open to visitors, including a Mother’s Day tea party on Sunday 15th March 2026 and Easter at the Manor on Saturday 11th April 2026.
